Local Recreation Departments Prepare Spring and Summer Programs

PRESQUE ISLE, Maine (WAGM) – With temperatures getting warmer, the local recreation departments are preparing their spring and summer programming.

“We’ve got an ATV safety course scheduled for May 1st,” said Neal Sleeper of the Caribou Recreation Department. “I just checked with the state, we have 48 people who are registered so far for that.”

Destin Florida vacation rental properties in 2021 boom in spring and summer

After short-term rentals were shut down for a few weeks in the spring of 2020 because of the coronavirus pandemic, the doors are now open and the vacation rental business on the Emerald Coast is booming.

Ocean Reef, a 40-year-old locally owned and operated vacation rental and real estate company manages 550 vacation homes and condos, and business is on the rise. 

“Thankfully, our market has rebounded tremendously post the state-mandated COVID shutdown,” said Richard Olivarez, chief marketing officer for Ocean Reef.

Sacramento mom goes missing on spring break vacation in Miami

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (KTXL) – A Sacramento mother of two young children has gone missing while on a trip to Miami and her family is desperately searching for answers and hoping to bring her home safe. 

Angela Morrisey, 23, has been missing since March 28.

Family says they went from Sacramento to Miami for spring break.

City parks and recreation provides program updates for spring, summer

The City of Reno this week provided an update on current operations within its Parks and Recreation department. It comes on the heels of another loosening of statewide COVID-19 restrictions permitting full-contact and close-contact sports to resume.

Parks and Recreation officials note that all of their programs still follow current COVID-19 mitigation measures, which include masking, social distancing and capacity limits.

MU student suffers near-drowning in Florida during spring break vacation | Local

MU senior Joseph Pedrotti survived a near-drowning Tuesday in Panama City Beach, Florida, during a spring break vacation.

According to the Panama City Beach police, the incident took place at 12:06 a.m. in the hotel pool at SpringHill Suites, a beachfront property owned by Marriott.

Witnesses told police that Pedrotti wanted to see how long he could hold his breath as he swam laps around the pool. Before getting into the pool, he bet his friends he could swim around the perimeter of the pool and had practiced holding his breath while in the hot tub.
