Hawaii will from next month allow residents who’ve been fully inoculated against COVID-19 to bypass the state’s pre-travel tests and quarantine for inter-island flights.

Hawaii to ease restrictions for vaccinated travelers, starting with inter-island visitors

The vaccine exception to the state’s “Safe Travels” program will go into effect for visitors from the continental United States later in the summer; a date has not yet been announced. HONOLULU (KHON2) — Governor David Ige answered media questions on Monday regarding several topics.

He said the state was on track to open up vaccines to 16 and older possibly by next week.

“I spoke to Dr. Libby Char this morning, and she believes in a few days, maybe a week, we will be able to complete all those in priority 1C, which would move us to all adults 16 and older,” he said.

Hawaii considering vaccine passports for inter-island travel

HONOLULU— Officials in Hawaii are looking into vaccine passports, especially for inter-island travel.

Hawaii Lt. Gov. Josh Green said the state hopes to work with a local company to create an app that would verify that a traveler has been vaccinated, KHON-TV reported Tuesday.

Green also said that while the app is being developed people could simply show their vaccination cards to travel without current testing restrictions.

“You would have a company that would do spot checking and certainly, you can check the card itself and make sure that it looks legitimate,” said Green.
