Foreign Office revises Covid advice for non-essential travel | Coronavirus

Hopes that holidays to popular tourist destinations could soon restart have been boosted after the government scrapped advice that said people should avoid all but essential travel to areas including mainland Portugal and Spain’s Canary Islands.

The Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) said the updates meant the level of Covid risk in some places was no longer “unacceptably high”, prompting speculation about which countries will be put on the “green list” when international travel is allowed again.

Biden to restrict travel from India amid coronavirus surge

WASHINGTON — President Joe Biden will restrict travel from India starting Tuesday on the advice of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention as India battles a deadly second wave of coronavirus infections.

The policy will not apply to American citizens, lawful permanent residents or other exempted individuals, according to a White House official. People in those categories will still have to test negative prior to travel, quarantine if unvaccinated and retest as negative upon entering the U.S., as is required for all international travelers.

Italy bans travel from India amid surge in coronavirus variants

Italy on Sunday became the latest country to ban travel from India and moved to imposed a ban anyone who had traveled to India within the past two weeks from entering the country.

Reuters reported that Italy’s heath minister made the announcement, warning of a so-called “double mutant” strain thought to have developed in the country.

“Our scientists are at work to study the new Indian variant,” he said.

Italy’s decision followed similar moves by countries including the U.K., Canada, New Zealand, Indonesia and others that have leveled travel restrictions of varying strength against India.
