Tourist from Boston released after arrest in connection with fatal Hawaii vacation rental fight

A tourist from Pittsburgh has been charged with manslaughter after a deadly fight in a Hawaii vacation rental, police said.

A second tourist from Boston who had been arrested was released with no charges filed, police on the Big Island said Wednesday.

Police were called to a Kailua-Kona vacation rental early Monday where a 30-year-old man wasn’t breathing.

An autopsy showed that Abhishek Gupta of Pittsburgh was strangled, police said.

A preliminary investigation found that an argument between the men turned physical, police said.

An iconic luxury hotel will open in the Back Bay next year inside a 35-story glass building designed with the city’s Emerald Necklace in mind.

The $400 million-plus Raffles Boston Back Bay Hotel & Residences, part of Accor, will open at 430 Stuart St. in late 2022. It will be the 134 year-old luxury brand’s first mixed-use property in North America.

HONOLULU (AP) — A tourist from Pittsburgh has been charged with manslaughter after a deadly fight in a Hawaii vacation rental, police said.

A second tourist from Boston who had been arrested was released with no charges filed, police on the Big Island said Wednesday.

Police were called to a Kailua-Kona vacation rental early Monday where a 30-year-old man wasn’t breathing.

A preliminary investigation found that an argument between roommates turned physical, police said.

Boston hotels, among hardest hit in the country, could take years to recover

The lodging market in Boston and Cambridge was steamrolled by the pandemic, with the area’s occupancy rate plunging to less than 26 percent last year, driving revenue per available room — the performance measure used in the hospitality industry — down more than 80 percent, according to the hotel consultancy Pinnacle Advisory Group. The region fared only slightly better than New York, which had the biggest drop in the country.

This year, local hotels are projected to hit 42percent occupancy, half of what it was in 2019. And hotel revenues aren’t expected to get back to pre-pandemic levels until 2025.

Another Boston hotel fires dozens of workers amid pandemic struggles
