Gov. Whitmer Signs Bipartisan Bill Investing in Outdoor Recreation in 76 Communities


Governor Gretchen Whitmer has signed a bipartisan bill that appropriates $37.8 million in Michigan Natural Resources Trust Fund grants to support 76 recreational projects and land purchases throughout Michigan.

The Michigan Natural Resources Trust Fund Board recommended the funding to increase the quality and amount of public outdoor recreation opportunities in Michigan.

The funding will support trail systems, acquisitions of high quality, unique natural resources including geological features, wildlife habitat and Great Lake and river access, and and extensive range of projects that will expand opportunities across the state for fishing, camping, biking, hiking and snowmobiling.

Rockies name Bill Schmidt as interim GM following Jeff Bridich’s departure

DENVER – The Colorado Rockies announced Monday that Bill Schmidt, the team’s vice president of scouting, will be their interim General Manager following the ouster of Jeff Bridich late last month.

“After discussions with the baseball department heads, we have come to the conclusion that Bill is the right person for interim GM,” said President Greg Feasel in a statement. “Bill’s experience and his relationships from top to bottom throughout our organization, including the players, coaches and staff on the field, more than qualify him for this role.”

Bill would begin study on recreation, investment opportunities in northern Knox County | Select

Knox County could become a new tourist destination in Nebraska, if the Legislature passes a new bill.

An amendment filed for Legislative Bill 406 would create a committee to investigate recreational and tourism opportunities in northern Knox County, including Lewis & Clark Lake and Niobrara State Park.

The committee also would be tasked with determining what the state would need to invest in the area and evaluating possible outcomes and economic benefits of developing the area.
