SAN ANTONIO – A hotel on the River Walk in downtown San Antonio had to be partially evacuated overnight after SWAT teams were called out for a ‘hostage situation.’

Police received a call for a disturbance just before 11:00 p.m. Saturday night at the Drury Plaza Hotel on South St. Mary’s in downtown.

When officers arrived, they found a woman who said that she had come to town with her husband and children for a getaway trip and the couple had gotten into a fight. The woman told police that her husband had threatened her and the kids and police were unable to get the husband to open the door to the room where the husband and kids were staying.

A hostage negotiation team, along with SWAT, were called out to try and deescalate the situation. The hotel floor that they were staying on was evacuated for precaution.

The husband stayed barricaded inside the room for close to six hours while police talked to him. Officers were able to Facetime him, so they had a visual of the kids as well during the hours long negotiation.

The kids were never in any danger, according to police, and did not appear to be distressed.

Around 5:00 in the morning, police decided to leave because they did not feel the wife was in any danger from the husband.

She retracted her earlier statement that he had threatened her and the kids.

No arrests were made and police say that it does not appear any charges will be filed. No one was injured during the incident.
