The RecPlex is a 79,000 square foot facility that provides the community of Ponca City with a variety of services since it’s opening in January of 2019.
Among some of the services offered by the Rec-Plex include aquatic activities such as water yoga and aerobics, swimming pools and kayak rentals. There are many fitness activities from kick boxing, cycling, yoga, power jam and boot camps.
Besides physical activities, there are also dog obedience classes, paint nights, and plans for an art class and a chess camp in summer.
The RecPlex, like many businesses, was forced to close for six weeks during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. During that time, the RecPlex was cleaned and sanitized from end to end and many new protocols were instituted to ensure that people remain safe while they use the facilities.
“It was slow going as far as activity, we limited what we were offering,” said Ryan Hafen, Recreation Superintendent.
Everyone has their temperature taken when they enter the RecPlex. There are also signs and sanitation stations available to help keep guest informed of the safety protocols.
Membership at the Rec-Plex offers access to the entire facility along with many discounts such as those for Youth League and kayak rentals.
Facebook is the primary source of social media used by the RecPlex, but there is also a section for it on poncacityok.gov.
“I joined this team a year ago in January. The Recplex is a facility that not every community our size has,” said Hafen. “It offers a lot to the community; a lot of people can take advantage of what’s here and we want to be able to serve Ponca City the best way we can and give people a way to recreate and have a health lifestyle.”
