Campus Recreation kicks off Intramural Sports events with Paper Airplane Competition | News

Campus Recreation kicked off this semester’s Intramural Sports events with the Paper Airplane Competition in the Maverick Activities Center on Wednesday.

The competition was designed for students to have fun while also embracing the competitiveness of Intramural Sports, said Travis Lankford, Campus Recreation assistant director for sport programs.

This marks the first year for the Paper Airplane Competition, Lankford said. While Campus Recreation was mostly doing virtual events because of the pandemic, feedback from students led him to think more creatively about offering in-person competitions this year.

Brunswick Recreation Center facing financial challenges heading into 2021

BRUNSWICK, Ohio — The Brunswick Recreation Center is facing a daunting 2021.

Membership is down by nearly 50 percent from 2019, and proceeds from the center’s most recent membership sale in December 2020 are coming in $119,000 short of the previous year’s numbers.

Parks and Recreation Director John Piepsny shared the numbers at the most recent City Council Parks and Recreation Committee meeting Jan. 25.

“We had been talking about some kind of funding for the Rec Center, and the last I heard, Dr. (Anthony) Fauci is saying we may not have (COVID-19) herd immunity until late fall,” Piepsny said.

Black Like Me film festival showcases BIPOC excellence in outdoor recreation

A B.C. group committed to crushing stereotypes about race and outdoor recreation has now launched a film festival coinciding with Black History Month that aims to do just that.

Colour the Trail, founded by Vancouver resident Judith Kasiama in 2017, is an organization with a mission to inspire Black, Indigenous and people of colour to get out and enjoy nature.

Richmond Heights Recreation Commission recommends several improvements, and closure of pool in 2021

RICHMOND HEIGHTS, Ohio — Completion of upgrades at the city’s Kiwanis Lodge, making improvements to Desan Park and Greenwood Farm, and keeping closed in 2021 the swimming pool at Community Park are a few of things the recreation department recommended, through Recreation Director Rick Dula, during Tuesday’s (Feb. 2) online City Council Service and Recreation Committee meeting.
