Student Recreation Center reopens for spring semester

After shuttering its doors in March due to the COVID-19 pandemic, UNC’s Student Recreation Center began its official reopening on Monday, after being closed for nearly 11 months.

This reopening plan incorporates several policies and precautionary measures to ensure that there is a safe and healthy work-out environment for campus community members.

Before arrival, a 2-hour time slot reservation must be made up to 48 hours in advance. Reservations are limited to one per day in an effort to allow anyone who desires a chance to visit the facility.

One year later, Austin Community Recreation Center

It was a feeling of excitement all around for people in Austin just one year ago when the community Recreation Center opened.

“We went from just over 1,000 members to 2,000 members in the matter of a month,” said Executive Director of the YMCA, Diane Baker.

The YMCA facility is part of the rec center. Baker said the excitement changed once the pandemic hit.

“That quickly came to an end on March 17th when we had to close our doors,” said Baker.

Pontiac approves new five year parks and recreation plan | Local News

The city of Pontiac has approved a new five year Parks and Recreation Master Plan for its 36 public parks and recreation facilities.

The 208-page plan includes an inventory of the city’s 530-acres of recreation space and potential improvements. It also outlines recommendations from the city’s 2017 Complete Streets Pontiac Master Plan, which aims to make the city more walkable while reducing pedestrian traffic accidents.
